European Nightcrawler Cocoons (Eisenia Hortensis egg capsules)

16 oz of European Nightcrawler (Eisenia hortensis) bedding containing approximately 100 cocoons (worm eggs).  When we sift our European Nightcrawlers to re-bed them or to weigh them out for orders we get a lot of cocoons.  If you are not in a hurry buying cocoons can be a very economical way of getting started because it is less expensive than buying the worms.  These cocoons will produce approx 1 baby each, sometimes more.  It will typically take the cocoons approximately 2-3 weeks to hatch if kept in the mid 70's (temperature), a little longer if they are kept at a cooler temperature.  If managed properly (temp, moisture, bedding, food type and quantity) they will reach full size in approximately 18 weeks and start making babies of their own.
