Red Worms are undoubtedly the most versatile of the composting worms.
They are tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and conditions, and very well-suited for anyone wanting to turn organic wastes into beautiful worm castings.
Many people use Red Worms for fishing as well – they are ideal for trout and panfish! If you want a larger fishing worm (that is also great for composting), you may want to consider the European Nightcrawler.
1 lb Red Worms (SHIPPED) = $34 USD
2 lb Red Worms (SHIPPED) = $52 USD
3 lb Red Worms (SHIPPED) = $70 USD
5 lb Red Worms (SHIPPED) = $111 USD
European Nightcrawlers (ENCs) are a larger cousin of the Red Worms. If there was ever going to be a perfect “all in one” worm this would be it! Their size and incredible durability on the hook make them very well suited for use as a bait worm. They are considerably larger than Red Worms, but not as big as “Canadian Nightcrawlers” – in other words, you might say they are “just right”. They are even reported to be tolerant of very cold, even brackish waters!
Euros aren’t just a fishing worm, though. They are excellent for vermicomposting and certain gardening applications as well. They don’t grow in abundance as quickly as Red Worms, but they will still happily convert lots of food wastes (etc) into amazing castings.
1 lb ENCs (SHIPPED) = $40 USD
2 lb ENCs (SHIPPED) = $67 USD
3 lb ENCs (SHIPPED) = $93 USD
5 lb ENCs (SHIPPED) = $133 USD
The Composting Worm Mix is worm-rich (Red Wigglers), cocoon-rich living material full of micro-organisms that can be used to stock a new system.
When a new system is stocked with this material the population in the new system tends to explode very quickly. Remember, this habitat is the material that has been their home and where they have already been thriving.
There is almost never a tendency to roam as there is when stocking systems with worms that have been bought by the pound and are shipped in a dry, non-living material. The shipping process is much less stressful on them as a result. It has been proven that younger worms and especially cocoons that are born in a new environment adapt much better than adult worms.
1 gal Compost Worm Mix (SHIPPED) = $29 USD
2 gal Compost Worm Mix (SHIPPED) = $49 USD
3 gal Compost Worm Mix (SHIPPED) = $69 USD
...regular soil worms are NOT well suited for worm composting, and cannot be raised very easily in captivity?
Similarly, composting worms should NOT be released in your garden or on your lawn! Any supplier that tells you otherwise is simply trying to separate you from your hard-earned money.
